Should I measure from the base of my neck to the tip of my shoulder, as with Western clothes, and use that as the "shoulder width"? How do shoulder width and sleeve width work on a kimono?: On a kimono, "shoulder width" (katahaba) means something different from the shoulder width of Western clothes (neck to shoulder tip).

On a kimono, the whole length from the base of the neck (center back) to the wrist bone is called "yuki". This yuki is divided into two parts: the part on the shoulder side is the "shoulder width" (katahaba), and the part on the sleeve (arm) side is the "sleeve width" (sodehaba).

For example, if your yuki is 70 cm, a typical guide is a shoulder width of about 34 cm and a sleeve width of about 36 cm. (*Please note that, unlike Western clothes, the division is not at the tip of your shoulder.)
Should I calculate the "back width" (ushirohaba) from my hip measurement? How does the body width of a kimono work, and how can I check which size fits me?: The "back width" (ushirohaba) does not refer to your hip circumference itself.

Around the waist, a kimono is made of panels that wrap around your body side by side, starting from the center back seam: "back width" (ushirohaba), "front width" (maehaba), "okumi width" and "collar width" (erihaba). Picture the edge of the collar width landing right around the edge of your hip on the right-front side.

To check your size, I recommend the following:

1. If you have a yukata or kimono:
The most reliable way is to try it on and check how much the body width is short (or too big). Measure the back width, front width, okumi width and collar width of your kimono, and let me know how much is missing.

2. If you don't have a kimono at hand:
As a reference for choosing a size, for example, a person who is 178 cm tall with hips of about 95 cm fits our men's size L just right.
How do the collar pieces work? Your videos show only two collar pieces, but I have five in total. I understand that the kake-eri goes over the long ji-eri, but what should I do with the remaining three smaller ji-eri pieces?: If you have enough fabric width, simply use the single large ji-eri (base collar) piece.

If you are using narrow traditional Japanese fabric (approx. 36 cm / 14 inches wide) and cannot cut a single long piece, use the three smaller ji-eri pieces instead. Piecing these three parts together is a traditional Japanese tailoring technique known as Mitsuwari-eri (three-piece collar).

Don't worry about the seams—the center joins will be completely covered by the kake-eri (over-collar).
Lines are thick. Where in this line is correct, inside, center, outside? I'm going to use it by tracing it.: Center is correct. Theoretically correct position is center, and that's magnified. Strictly speaking, inside and outside are wrong.
Why should I sew both of pater pattern and fabric instead of tracing lines to fabric?: The target of this paper patter is beginners without experience. For experienced users, please use this paper pattern as you prefer such as tracing lines on your own.
