Now northern gardeners can enjoy growing delicious figs! The 'Chicago' Hardy Fig is one of the cold-hardiest varieties available.

Chicago Hardy Fig can still be your shining star, even when the view out your window is snowy and cold each winter. Think warm, and purple brown figs with great flavor will soon be sitting on your kitchen counter. This fig variety has good cold tolerance, to USDA zone 4. The Chicago Hardy earns its name well...it can freeze back to the ground and come back and fruit the next season. Your tasty figs are produced on next season's summer growth. Figs love full hot sun and consistent irrigation....

This new Chicago Hardy fig is winter hardy to zone 5 with some protection. In the chilly areas, the plant may die back to the ground in late fall but will resprout in the spring. Because the Chicago Hardy Fig fruits on new wood (current season's growth) this cycle doesn't impact fig production. As another option, grow your fig in a beautiful large container and park it in a cool garage during the winter months. This variety is self pollinating so one tree can produce without having a partner.

Hardy Chicago Fig: A brown fig, rich and sweet. Good for potted culture, but a dependable outdoor fig. Leaves are the 5-lobed type and the plant has a bush form in the east. Space 8' to 10' circle in Zone 7. Zones 6-8.
